Donor-Advised Funds

Simplify your charitable giving while enjoying immediate tax benefits with a DAF.

How to Donate through a DAF

A quick, easy, and tax-savvy way to donate, Donor-Advised Funds have become increasingly popular for charitable giving. Here are two simple ways you can make a gift through your DAF:

Option 1

Make an outright gift now by recommending a grant from your DAF to Oregon Humane Society using the tool below. OHS’ tax ID is 93-0386880.

Option 2

Create a succession plan to name OHS as a designated beneficiary of your DAF. If you include OHS in your plans, please let us know!

How to Create and Donate Through a DAF

You can establish a DAF at a sponsoring charity such as a community foundation, a public charity with a DAF program, or a financial services company. A minimum contribution may be required to start a DAF, typically from $5,000 to $25,000 depending on the sponsoring organization. If you are considering establishing a Donor-Advised Fund, we can suggest several sponsors for your review. You should also consult your professional advisor for guidance.

DAFs can be made with contributions of cash or appreciated assets such as stocks or mutual funds. You’ll get an immediate income tax charitable deduction for your contribution that could reduce your taxes if you itemize.

Once your DAF is established and funded, you can recommend that OHS receive grants from your fund.

You can also create a succession plan with your DAF sponsor to recommend that some or all of the remaining assets in your fund at your passing go to OHS and other charities that are important to you.
