On Sunday April 5, a team of Oregon Humane staff and volunteers traveled to a property in Gresham to support an overwhelmed family in need of urgent assistance.
The family had more dogs than they could safely manage. They loved their dogs, but a recent heartbreaking and life-altering event elevated their need for support, and they reached out for help.
Our team quickly and compassionately coordinated with the family and Multnomah County Animal Services to bring 29 dogs, including three neonatal puppies, into our care.

At Oregon Humane, the dogs will receive everything they need, including medical care, behavioral support, healthy diets, and more, while they await new homes.
The family has been connected to our Veterinary Social Worker for additional support, and they have much needed relief, knowing that their pets will now have brighter futures.
Situations like this are becoming more common. In February and March of this year, our team brought 50 animals from two separate but similar circumstances to safety.
As pet owners in our community face extraordinary hardships like increasing costs for housing, food, medical care and more, donor sustained support is more important now than ever before.
