Do Even More for Animals in 2026!

In 2025, at the request of Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon Humane assisted with the rescue of Poley and 61 other dogs and puppies suffering from neglect.

Scattered across a heavily wooded property, the dogs were living in unsanitary conditions and largely left to fend for themselves outside, including several newborn puppies.

Like many of the other dogs, Poley was apprehensive around humans and fearful in her new environment. Her previous owner was formally charged with animal neglect, but that didn’t change the road ahead for Poley and the other dogs.

Making space in our shelter and caring for 62 large dogs whose arrival was unanticipated is no easy task. But thanks to you, all the dogs received the specialized care they needed—including grooming to clean their dirty, matted coats, medical treatment, behavior training, vaccinations, and healthy diet and exercise routines.

One by one, the once almost-feral dogs transformed, growing calm and confident in our care.  Soon, Poley blossomed and found a loving home where she has been described by her owner as, “a spunky, playful, love bug!”

From neglected and nervous to well cared for and content —Poley’s life has forever changed.

This unexpected, large rescue was only possible because of your generous support. More cases like this will surely come to light in the coming year. We can only answer the calls for help because of you.
