Discussion Questions for Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton

Welcome Readers to OHS’ Book Club!

All our Book Club selections are made by animal-lovers for animal-lovers! Our pick for winter 2025 is the beautifully written and peaceful memoir, Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton—the perfect book to read while snuggled up with your own pets!

Read along with us! Whether solo or with a group, we have put together some thoughtful discussion questions to consider after reading.

Discussion Questions

  1. In what ways is Dalton’s relationship with the hare different from a relationship one might have with a pet?
  2. What did you know about hares prior to reading the book and what new information did you learn?
  3. Do you think Dalton was successful in keeping the hare wild?
  4. Do you think wild animals should ever be owned?
  5. Dalton made drastic changes to her home to ensure that the hare felt comfortable. What lengths have you gone to for the animals in your life to cater to their unique personalities and preferences?
  6. In the book, Dalton describes ‘a new spirit of attentiveness to nature’ because of her time caring for the hare. Have you had this experience before when spending time with animals, wild or domesticated?
