OHS Welcomes a New Medical Director to the Community Veterinary Hospital
Looking back on her life, Dr. Franci Forman believes she was always destined to be a veterinarian. She had focused much of her early adulthood around building a career as a competitive downhill skier, but the practice of medicine called to her just as loudly as the snowy slopes. She even elected to stay awake during her own knee surgery to watch her surgeon at work. However, it wasn’t until her own rescued labrador, Shorty, came into her life that she decided to reroute her plans and dedicate her career to helping animals.
OHS welcomed Dr. Forman as the new Medical Director of our Community Veterinary Hospital (CVH) in December 2024, but it isn’t our first introduction to each other. Dr. Forman’s alma matter, Oregon State University, has a long-standing partnership with OHS wherein OSU veterinarian students complete rotations in our Animal Medical Learning Center (AMLC) to gain hands-on experience. Dr. Forman was one of those interns.
From the get-go, she was blown away by the shelter and the incredible staff who mentored her during her internship, including Dr. Henry and Dr. Miller – both of whom still work for OHS today.
After college, Dr. Forman focused on emergency vet care. She thrived in the fast-paced environment, but she always kept one foot in the door at OHS.
“I was always yearning to go back—to the access of care and to the shelter—and I just loved this organization.”

In her limited free time, Dr. Forman signed up to provide relief work at OHS’ shelter and CVH. When the position of Medical Director opened, she jumped on the opportunity. Finally, Dr. Forman’s path came full circle, and she was welcomed enthusiastically into the OHS team.
As Medical Director, Dr. Forman balances seeing patients and administrative duties. Her goal is to continue supporting a motivated team to make access to high quality veterinary care increasingly accessible for the community.
“Being a part of OHS’ CVH team is an absolute privilege. I can’t wait to watch this incredible program continue to develop while providing an outstanding quality of veterinary care.”
Her passion for the CVH is clear, and Dr. Forman’s hope is for people to continue to recognize how special it is and make it their first choice for veterinary care.
“Everyone here has so much passion and wants to be here. The culture we have created at this hospital is unparalleled—it’s positive, it’s encouraging. It’s really exciting to be around people who just want to do right by these animals.”
