Meet the Heroes

Oregon Humane Society honored exceptional people and pets at the annual Diamond Collar Awards on Feb. 22, 2023. Recipients were recognized for their compassion, tenacity, kindness, and vision. This was the first in-person OHS Diamond Collar Awards celebration since February 2020.

This year’s winners include a Fences for Fido volunteer-turned-employee who goes above and beyond to serve the pets and people of Warm Springs; a sanctuary that cares for donkeys and gives back to their community; an elderly dog who made a lifesaving discovery; a shy canine who rescued a toddler from drowning. Subaru of America Portland Zone was recognized as the corporate hero for their commitment to helping shelter animals.

Additionally, OHS honored retired Senator Peter Courtney with a special Diamond Collar Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades of public service and commitment to legislation protecting animals.

“This year’s Diamond Collar Award winners are truly inspiring,” said Sharon Harmon, OHS President and CEO. “Each honoree is a great reminder of the compassion of incredible people and pets in our community.”

Matt Zaffino, KGW Chief Meteorologist also returned to the event this year as co-host.
