Give to Animals All Year!

GivingTuesday has come and gone, but you can still help animals in our community! Your donation will help thousands of animals, including those in dire need of rescue, like Maisie.

Maisieโ€™s Story

When a worried community member caught aโ€ฏglimpse of unkempt Maisie,โ€ฏthey alerted Oregon Humane Societyโ€™sโ€ฏHumane Lawโ€ฏEnforcement team, who rushed to investigate.

โ€ฏHumaneโ€ฏSpecialโ€ฏAgentโ€ฏMike Roweโ€ฏchecked onโ€ฏMaisie and met her elderly owner. It was clear that this wasโ€ฏa caseโ€ฏofโ€ฏa person who loved their animal but no longer had the physical or financial ability to provide for her.

Maisieโ€™s matted fur was extremely painful,โ€ฏandโ€ฏcontinuing to leave itโ€ฏuntreated could cause skin infections, restrict blood flow, and lead to open wounds or tears in the skin.โ€ฏBecause of herโ€ฏovergrown, matted furโ€ฏthatโ€ฏcovered her eyes,โ€ฏMaisie was living in darkness.

Her owner struggled toโ€ฏprovide theโ€ฏdaily care neededโ€ฏfor her,โ€ฏand so Maisieโ€ฏwas kept primarily insideโ€”even forโ€ฏpotty breaksโ€”andโ€ฏrarelyโ€ฏsaw the light of day.โ€ฏWanting a better future for Maisie,โ€ฏand with Officer Roweโ€™sโ€ฏempathetic support, Maisieโ€™sโ€ฏownerโ€ฏdecided toโ€ฏsurrender the tiny dog toโ€ฏOHS.

Back at ourโ€ฏPortlandโ€ฏshelter,โ€ฏthe OHSโ€ฏteam wasโ€ฏimmediatelyโ€ฏable to helpโ€ฏMaisieโ€”diligentlyโ€ฏshavingโ€ฏher tough matted shell, assessing her medical needs, providing her with nourishing food, and giving her a comfortable place to recover.

Today, Maisie has been adopted and has new, soft fur growing in.โ€ฏBecause of animal lovers like you, Maisie can see the world again and has a bright future ahead.
