A Refreshed Visual Identity for Oregon Humane

New Look, Same Life-Changing Impact!

After 150+ years of helping animals and people find their joy together, Oregon Humane is getting a fresh new look! We’re still the same organization—just with a vibe that better shows who we are today. Our new look celebrates the joy, love, and connection that happen when humans and animals lift each other up. Because when we all feel safe, valued, and part of something bigger, life gets a whole lot brighter.

What changes did you make? Is anything changing about your services?

We’ve shortened our name to Oregon Humane (though we’ll still do business as Oregon Humane Society/OHS). Removing the word “society” serves three main purposes:

  1. it distinguishes us from other animal welfare organizations, helping to clarify that we are an independent non-profit with no affiliation to other agencies.
  2. it removes the preconceived notion often associated with “humane society” that the only service we provide is adoption.
  3. it served us for generations, but it also felt formal, and exclusive. Our work is about belonging, connection, and the human–animal bond that changes lives every day. Our name needs to reflect that.

We also updated our logo, as well as our mission and vision statements.

Our operations, programs, and services to the community are not impacted by the new brand.

I don’t understand the new logo. What is it?

The logo is open to interpretation, but it embodies many elements:

  • at first glance, it’s the letter O encircling an H, for Oregon Humane
  • half of the circle represents a dog’s ear
  • the other half represents a cat’s paw (or the circle is two cat paws playing with a piece of string!)
  • the middle line of the H is a smile, bringing humanity and joy to the center
  • the line at the bottom represents a wagging tail
  • a lot of people (and doggos) also see a tennis ball!

Is your mission changing?

In practice, no. But in how we talk about it, yes.

Introducing: Our New Mission Statement

A mission statement is kind of like our job description. It prioritizes us in our work and helps us ground our decisions about programs and resources.

Our new mission statement better exemplifies our role in the community, and it adds some specificity about how our work is truly centered around the symbiotic, beneficial relationship between animals and humans.

Mission Statement
We transform compassion into action, creating an ecosystem where all of us—animals and humans—feel safe, valued, and part of something bigger.

Introducing: Our New Vision Statement

A vision statement describes the world we’re working toward and the future we want to create.

Vision Statement
A world where all animals and humans amplify joy for each other.

Introducing: Our Brand Pillars

Between our two campuses, Oregon Humane does a lot: adoptions, veterinary services, training programs, community events, legislation, educational programs, humane law enforcement, forensics—and so much more!

We’ve created the following pillars to help categorize our various programs and services in a more succinct way. You’ll start to see these show up in our messaging to help our community better navigate through the many ways they can engage with Oregon Humane.

Well-Being

Promoting the physical, mental, and emotional health of animals through sheltering, medical services, and behavior modification.

Connection

Building bonds between animals and humans, and across our communities through adoptions, agency partnerships, and events

Knowledge

Creating opportunities to expand awareness and education through training classes, humane education, and veterinary student programs.

Advocacy

Championing the rights of animals through humane law enforcement, legislation, and animal crimes forensics.

What’s next?

Effective immediately, we’ll begin to update our digital and printed materials with the new brand elements. This change will take some time, so the old and new brand will coexist for a while. We hope you’re as excited as we are to witness the evolution of our new visual identity!

A new campaign is also on the horizon! Keep an eye out for Oregon Humane to have increased visibility in the community with a fun, new marketing campaign to spread joy and celebrate the special bond we have with the animals in our lives.
