Access to Veterinary Care for Pets in the Community
Experiencing the joy that comes with having a pet in your life should be accessible to everyone. Animals can help reduce stress and produce serotonin, the happy brain chemical. At Portland Animal Welfare (PAW) Team, their goal is to keep people and pets together, no matter the financial situation.
OHS and PAW Team have partnered together to provide accessible spay and neuter services for PAW Team clients. A discounted rate of $30 for cat spay and neuter and $100 for dogs is available at OHS and PAW Team covers 100 percent of the cost for their clients.
People that qualify for PAW Team services have different stories. Some are unhoused, some live in shelter, while others face financial hardship that restricts their access to medical care for their companions.
“PAW Team clients also often become pet parents through non-traditional means: they may adopt a puppy from a friend whose dog had an unexpected litter; or they may take guardianship from a family member; or they may rescue a feral kitten from somewhere near where their RV is parked, etc. So, the chances that a PAW Team client has adopted an already spayed or neutered pet is lower than the typical population that may adopt from a shelter or rescue,” says Alex Laskowski, PAW Team Communications & Fundraising Coordinator
OHS and PAW Team are both providing support 365 days a year to pets in need. The work of providing aid to animals in our community and this incredible partnership cannot be done without your support!
