Spay Neuter Services Provided for More than 340 Pets

Helping More Animals Thanks to Subaru Loves Pets

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, Oregon Humane hosted our third “super-sized” spay neuter event of the year. While low-cost spay/neuter is provided to pet owners at our Salem and Portland campuses every week, the demand far outpaces supply. This is why, several times a year, we pause most other medical services and pull our teams together to focus on providing spay/neuter for as many pets in our community as possible.

More than 340 pets received spay/neuter surgery as a result of the day-long clinic, making this our largest, single-day effort of the year.

This super-sized clinic was made possible from support from Subaru of Portland and Gresham Subaru through the Subaru Loves Pets grant program. Thanks to their support, we were able to provide critical care to keep cats and dogs healthy—and to prevent unwanted litters, helping to address pet overpopulation in our community.

Among the pets who received spay/neuter were 24 dogs thanks to our partnership with PAW Team. Finding low-cost spay/neuter for dogs can be particularly challenging and can be a barrier to getting into housing. PAW Team keeps pets and people together by providing free veterinary care, pet supplies, and wrap-around support to Portlanders who are unhoused or experiencing poverty. Since Paw Team’s clinic does not have a surgical suite, the partnership with Oregon Humane increases access to spay/neuter and other essential procedures.
