OHS Helps Pets During Evacuation

OHS has teamed up with Clackamas County to aid pets owned by apartment residents who were forced to evacuate because of a potential landslide.

Earlier this week, residents of ten apartment units on S. Beavercreek Road in Oregon City were given mandatory evacuation orders because of the risk of landslides created by record rainfalls. Clackamas County Dog Services (CCDS) will be providing shelter for displaced animals while the affected families are being assisted with housing by the American Red Cross. Another wave of evacuations is expected from an adjoining apartment complex, and OHS is on standby to accept as many dogs from CCDG as needed.

To help make room for pets arriving from the apartment complex, OHS accepted 12 from CCDS today, including Max (pictured). OHS will offer the dogs for adoption at the OHS shelter in Portland, freeing up needed space at the Clackamas facility.

“The local shelters in our community came together to tackle this problem and make it as easy as possible for the residents who must evacuate,” said Brenda King, OHS Director of Operations. “We know that leaving your home is very stressful. But knowing that your pets will be in good hands can help ease that stress.”
