Nearly 100 Cats & Kittens Arrive from Maui

On Aug. 18, Oregon Humane Society welcomed 92 shelter cats and kittens from Maui Humane Society on a flight in partnership with Greater Good Charities.

All of the cats and kittens coming to Oregon were already in the shelter in Maui before the fires began. While the full impact of the tragedy in Maui continues to unfold, shelters on the island are working tirelessly to balance their existing populations while supporting countless displaced pets in need. This crucial transfer frees up vital space and resources for lost and injured pets on the island.

This intake also marks a major milestone: it is the first large rescue effort at OHS’ new Behavior and Rescue Center. The BRC was purpose-built as a designated space away from the main shelter to house animals in peril. Every cat and kitten will receive top-notch care, including a thorough screening, food, shelter, and any needed medical services like spay/neuter.
