Dr. Kris Otteman will be at the Doggie Dash starting line on May 13 because she knows first-hand about helping animals. Dr. Otteman heads the OHS medical team, which relies entirely on donations to help more than 12,000 animals each year.

Dr. Otteman was a key figure in the launch of the OHS hospital in 2007. The hospital, which is directly attached to the OHS shelter, makes state-of-the-art medical care possible for every pet at OHS.

Thanks to the donations that built the medical center, shelter animals get the same care you would want your own pet to receive. That means sick and injured animals get a second chance at life.

“The Dash reminds me of the amazing work we do for dogs and cats that come to OHS needing extensive medical care. We heal sick and injured pets so they can become healthy and get adopted by a family. It’s a miracle and I see it happen every week at OHS.”

Last year alone, the OHS medical team performed almost 1,000 lifesaving and emergency surgeries, provided free or low-cost alters for over 4,000 pets owned by low-income families, and completed over 12,000 additional needed surgical procedures.

Lulu will see you at the Dash!

Look for Dr. Otteman at the Dash with her dog Lulu, who came to OHS as a tiny puppy with her mom and litter mates. “I have to say Lulu is my first lap dog and I love having her with me everywhere I go. I’ll be taking her to the Dash so if anyone wants to meet, her now’s your chance!”

When you are raising funds or donating to the Dash, remember that your contributions can help keep animals healthy: it costs about $5,000 per day to fund the lifesaving work of the OHS hospital.

Please donate to the Dash now or sign up to be a Dasher.
