Easter Treats for Shelter Dogs

At OHS, staff and volunteers get creative to help each pet have a positive stay at the shelter, however long or short their visit might be prior to getting adopted.

To provide some extra TLC and celebrate the Easter holiday, a group of volunteers recently got together to prep Easter egg-shaped treats for the shelter dogs. They filled plastic egg containers with donated high-quality canned dog food and put these in a freezer so the filling would keep its shape on Easter morning, when the treats would be distributed to the eager shelter dogs.

The volunteer Easter bunnies who helped fill eggs included: Candace, Lynne C., Paula, Lynn E., Kristi, Jodi, Ann-Marie, Hally, and Emily.

You might already know that OHS has volunteer dog-walking teams who help ensure all shelter dogs get to go outside for potty breaks and exercise at least twice a day. Each day of the week, there’s a different team of walkers, one in the morning and one in the evening. (Read past blog posts about the dog walkers here and here.)

On Easter Sunday, the Sunday Morning Dog Walking Team got to play Easter Bunnies and distribute the treats to the shelter pups!

Some of the dogs needed a little time to figure out the frozen treats, and some were more interested in receiving pats from the volunteers, but overall the Easter deliveries received a big two paws up!
