True or false: There is an orangutan buried at OHS.
It’s true! Peggy Borneo was the pet orangutan of a Portland woman with big dreams for her primate companion. Peggy was dressed in rompers, had her own chair, slept in a bed, played in a kiddy car and frolicked in a backyard sandbox. Only a few days before Peggy died in 1929, her owner had signed a contract to have Peggy appear in movies. Peggy’s funeral was a grand and elaborate affair, and she was laid to rest in a lavish satin-lined casket within the OHS Memorial Gardens.
