Finding Kittens: Assess, Observe, Act
OHS receives hundreds of calls each year from people who have found a litter of kittens and are unsure of how to help. In most cases, the kittens are not abandoned and there is a mother cat nearby. Unless the kittens appear sick, wet, or injured they are best left in place.
OHS will accept unweaned kittens who are sick, injured, or in danger. This applies to any county.

Preventing Kittens: Starts with Spay/Neuter
Did you know that cats can have up to three litters a year? At three to six kittens per litter, the situation can quickly become overwhelming. One of the best ways to help kittens now is by preventing the next litter.
OHS offers low-cost spay/neuter services at our Portland and Salem campuses.
Become a Foster Parent
Foster homes play a critical role during kitten season. This life-saving work can include bottle-feeding neonatal kittens, administering medications, or simply giving kittens the time, space, and nourishment they need to thrive.
Adopt an Animal
Every time a pet is adopted from OHS, a kennel becomes available for the next animal in need. Opening your heart and home to a cat, kitten, or other shelter animal helps free up resources so OHS can help even more kittens during this busy time of year.
Donate Supplies
Caring for thousands of kittens each year requires a lot of supplies. Neonatal kittens, or bottle babies, need nourishment to survive and thrive. Purchasing kitten formula is one of the many ways you can help during kitten season.
