63rd Annual Be Kind to Animals
Poster and Story Contest
The Oregon Humane Society announced this year's contest grand prize winners during a special “A'Cat'Emy Awards” presentation held on April 22nd at OHS. The contest highlighted the creative work of nearly 80 young Oregonian artists and writers, recognizing these youth for their positive messages portraying aspects of the OHS mission.
The Grand Prize in the Poster category was awarded to Annie Parham, an 11th grade student at the Cleveland High School in Southeast Portland. The Poster runner up award went to Nina Manning, a fifth-grade student at Fine Arts Starts in Oregon City.
Marissa Gowen, a 12th grade student at St. Mary's Academy in Portland, took the Grand Prize in the Photo/Story category. The runner up Photo/Story award went to Nora Kearns, a seventh-grade student at Lake Oswego Jr. High School in Lake Oswego.
More than 2,500 entries were received from school children around the state. Grades 1 through 12 based their entries on different age-appropriate humane education themes such as: be kind to animals, spay/neuter your pet, license your pet, and adopt a shelter dog or cat. Winners of honorable mention through first place in each grade received a certificate, ribbon, and other prizes. The poster grand prize winner and the photo/story grand prize winner each received a laptop computer.
