New Year's Resolutions We Know You Can Keep
Because they are for your best friend
Everyone takes time to reflect on the past year and think about
plans to do better for the New Year. The Oregon Humane Society encourages
you to make some resolutions that include your four-legged friends
and will better the lives of homeless pets in this community.
Repeat after us: This year, I resolve to show my love for my four-legged
companion. Here's how:
- get my pet spayed or neutered
- encourage friends, family, co-workers, and acquaintances to
have their pets spayed or neutered
- make sure my pet is wearing a collar with tags at all times
or better yet, get a microchip id and register it with 24PetWatch
- give up smoking because second hand smoke puts my pet at high
risk of developing life threatening cancer
- pack a disaster kit for my pet
- schedule my pet's annual veterinarian appointment
- get exercise by walking my dog every day
- find out where the nearest official off-leash park is for me
and my
dog to visit
- play with my cat every day
- sign up for training classes for me and my canine companion
- remembering to keep my pet fit and trim and refrain from using
food as love - use play time instead
- get some new toys for my cat or dog (and I'll buy them at the
Oregon Humane Society's pet supply store where 100 percent of the proceeds
help homeless animals)
- keep my cat's litter box clean and
fresh every day
- if appropriate, adopt a friend
for my pet (a second dog or cat only
adds more joy and fun)
- make a donation
to the Oregon Humane Society in honor of my pet
- take a photograph of my pet to use in case he gets lost
- keep my cat indoors 24 / 7 where she
will be safe and live a long
healthy happy life
