What is AAI?
The AAI (Animal-Assisted Interactions) Prep Class at OHS prepares people and their pets to take the national Pet Partner exam administered by the Delta Society. Pet Partner teams that pass the exam are recognized as having the skills needed to bring animals into health care facilities, schools, libraries and other organizations where they bring comfort and support to members of our community. All prep school classes for 2009 are now over. To find out more about AAI, click here. Price: The 5-week prep school and evaluation costs $200. Additional book purchase of $40 is required (course manual). Current OHS volunteers receive the manual and an embroidered vest for their pet free of charge, a savings of over $70. Prices will increase by about 6% in 2010. 2010 Prep School and Fast Track dates will be posted soon. Thanks!
FAST-TRACK ONE DAY WORKSHOPS
Do you live outside the Portland area? Or are you unable to attend all 5 weeks of prep school? Rather than attend the entire prep course, you can attend our all-day, condensed workshop with your dog to learn the skills and information you'll need to become a Pet Partner team. You will have a half hour break for lunch (please bring your own lunch). Students must return at a later date for their final evaluation as specified below. Price: The regular price for workshop is $160 plus an additional book purchase of $40. Oregon Humane Society Volunteers receive an embroidered AAI OHS vest and the course manual free of charge, a savings of $70. CLASS REQUIREMENT: The Oregon Humane Society requires that all animals in our training classes are spayed or neutered (animals attending private training consultations are exempt from this requirement).
Our winter fast track workshop still has several spots available. For dates and how to register, see below.
Register here for the Winter Fast Track Workshop. All prep school classes for 2009 are now full. 2010 class times and dates will be posted soon. Thank you. Please note: After successfully completing the Pet Partner evaluation, Pet Partner teams usually spend 2-4 hours per month at a facility visiting patients and residents.
