Tiny Terrier Mutt & Big Shepherd Are PDX’s Top Dogs
June 30, 2011: A one-of-a-kind canine showdown has crowned two very special dogs as Portland’s Next Top Dog Models. The fifth annual benefit for the Oregon Humane Society, held this evening at the Hotel Monaco, drew an energized crowd of 200 people who cheered for their favorite dogs
From the 24 finalists, the celebrity panel of six judges selected Clover, an 18-lb terrier-mix and Oregon Humane society alumnus, as the winner of the small dog category (Clover is pictured at top left).
In the large dog category, honors went to Bacus, an 87 lb. German shepherd who is a certified search and rescue dog (pictured lower left, photo by Four-Legged Photo).
The finalists, chosen from more than 150 applications, were judged on style, personality, and runway demeanor as they strutted down the “dogwalk” at the Monaco Hotel.
Each dog also had to answer a series of lifestyle questions. Clover, the tan-colored terrier mix with a semi-rough coat and pointed ears, said his best feature was “My scruffiness! I look even better muddy!”
Clover was adopted from OHS in December 2010 by Beth, Timm and Connor Flannigan of Washougal, Wash.
Bacus, who lives with Rod Ohearn of Vancouver, Wash., said “I love to find lost people. I get so excited when my adopted Dad puts my uniform on … my Dad and I are a great team!”
Last night’s event was sponsored LexiDog Boutique & Social Club and the Hotel Monaco. The event raised an estimated $7,000 for the animals at OHS.
