Nominate Your Hero
Winners can be humans or animals who have had a positive impact on the lives of animals, exhibiting courage and compassion in the pursuit of animals’ well-being in Oregon. Emmett, a Saint Bernard, received a 2009 Diamond Collar award for surviving and thriving despite only having three legs, inspiring children and adults with disabilities with his "pawsitive" attitude.
Mimi Ausland, a sixth-grade Bend, Ore., student who started a Website, freekibble.com, which has provided 56 tons of food to animals at 11 shelters throughout the country. If you are wondering how much 56 tons of pet food is, it comes to 784,000 meals, or enough to feed every dog and cat in the OHS shelter for almost three years.
