Portland, OR: The Oregon Humane Society (OHS) is offering a $1,000 reward for

information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the recent killing and mutilation of a five-year-old Boston terrier in Milwaukie, Ore.

The family pet was killed sometime during the evening of Sunday, July 12 on the grounds of Rex Putnam High School, located on Roethe Road.

A preliminary medical exam indicates the dog died from stab wounds to the neck. After the dog was killed, its coat was cut from its body.

“It takes a very violent person to kill a dog like this and then mutilate it. We’re very concerned because crimes like this against animals often lead to violent crimes against people,” said OHS Humane Investigator Austin Wallace. The dog’s body is now being examined by animal forensic specialists at the OHS Medical Center.

The body of the mutilated dog, Bandit, was found on the north side of Putman High School. The dog was apparently killed and mutilated within 1,500 feet of its home. The dog belonged to long-time residents Barbara and Willard Marr of SE Gordon St. They had let Bandit out in their backyard at 10:00 pm, and became concerned when he was not there when they checked at 10:20 pm.

$1,000 Reward

The body of the dog was found Monday morning by a school janitor. The case is now

being investigated by the Humane Officers of the Oregon Humane Society. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible. Aggravated animal abuse (defined as maliciously killing, or intentionally or knowingly torturing an animal) is a felony in Oregon, punishable by up to five years in jail.

The public can call the OHS animal cruelty hotline at (503) 285-7722, ext.214, with information about the case. OHS Humane investigators investigate over 1,000 cruelty cases each year, and rely entirely on private donations to support their work.

Please make a donation today to help the Oregon Humane Society's ongoing efforts to fight animal cruelty.
