The Forward Stride Center for Therapeutic Recreation will honor Oregon Humane Society
Executive Director Sharon Harmon as its “Cowgirl of the Year” at the nonprofit organization’s annual Cowgirl Ball fundraising event on February 25.

Harmon has worked at the Oregon Humane Society for more than 22 years and has served as the organization’s executive director since 1997. During her tenure, she has led two major capital expansions, resulting in the Oregon Humane Society’s state-of-the-art animal shelter and the recently opened—and first of its kind in the nation—Animal Medical and Learning Center, a cooperative venture with Oregon State University's
College of Veterinary Medicine. Under Harmon’s leadership, the Oregon Humane Society has been recognized for program excellence and fiscal efficiency, becoming a model for shelters worldwide.

The largest therapeutic center of its kind in Oregon, Forward Stride is dedicated to improving lives through equine-assisted therapies and programs. Our Hippotherapy Program offers people of all ages—including children as young as two—uniquely powerful therapeutic sessions on horseback with licensed physical, occupational, and
speech therapists. Forward Stride’s Veterans Program offers military veterans opportunities to participate in therapeutic riding instruction with their peers. The center’s inclusive Riding Program helps children and adults of all abilities develop horsemanship skills, fitness, and self-confidence.
