The Oregon Humane Society is inviting the public to a Sept. 9 open house celebrating the fifth-year anniversary of one of the nation’s leading veterinary hospitals and animal behavior centers.

Visitors will tour the OHS Holman Medical Center, launched five years ago and now on track to perform the 50,000th surgery this September.

Veterinarians will be on hand to answer questions and visitors can meet four-legged patients whose lives have been changed for the better.

The medical center provides state-of-the-art veterinary care for thousands of shelter animals each year. In a unique partnership with Oregon State University (OSU), the center also serves as a teaching hospital for the next generation of veterinarians.

New behavior and training facilities were also opened at OHS five years ago. At the open house, visitors can see the facilities up close, meet with trainers, and shake the paws of animals who have benefitted from a training class.

OHS staff work daily with shy, timid and reactive shelter pets to overcome behavior problems and help pets find homes faster. The general public can also take advantage of a full range of courses taught by certified pet trainers.
