The OHS Telethon to End Petlessness was a Huge Success

Thousands of television viewers tuned into the Oregon Humane Society's Tenth Annual Telethon to End Petlessness, sponsored by Subaru, and set an all-time record for supporting animals in need.

Televised live on KATU Channel 2, the four-hour telethon succeeded in two of its most close to the heart endeavors: finding homes for 78 dogs, cats, rabbits, and rodents over the day and raising over $260,000 to help homeless and unwanted pets.

"The telethon is a reflection of the compassion that our society has for animals and a measure of how valuable the services of OHS are to our community," states Sharon Harmon, Executive Director of the Oregon Humane Society. “Every dollar donated stays right here in this community helping the animals in your neighborhood.”

This year highlighted Oregon's own Special Humane Investigators on patrol and saw them in action. Viewers went behind the scenes in our state-of-the-art shelter, one of the newest and technologically advanced shelters in the nation.

Special segments introduced the many wonderful people who go above and beyond for the animals, from dedicated volunteers to some extraordinary children.

A special thanks to this year's telethon partners; Subaru of America, Bullard Smith Jernstadt Wilson, Comcast of Oregon, Companion Pet Clinic of St Johns, Cooper Mountain Kennels, Copytronix, Crosswhite Enterprises, Dennis' 7 Dees, Fullerton & Company, Heath Net of Oregon, Jensen Investment Management, Leopold Ketel + Partners, Mars Veterinary, Miller Nash LLP, MWI Veterinary Supply, NACCO Materials Handling Group Inc., North Portland Veterinary Hospital, Northwest EMC, The ODS Company, Petco / Petco Foundation, Plum Tree Mortgage, Portland Real Estate Industry Social (PREIS), Portland Trailblazers Staff, Quimby Corporation, Thede Culpepper LLP, West Coast Bank.

Large or small, your gift is important . The many programs OHS operates, such as animal cruelty investigations, humane education, and service learning, rely entirely on private donations. OHS receives no tax dollars and is not affiliated with any national organization.

Celebrate Black Friday at OHS

Who wants to go to the mall during the busiest shopping day of the year? Instead, come to the Oregon Humane Society and get 50 percent off the adoption fee of any black or predominantly black adult pet on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 27-29).

The annual OHS Black Friday sale begins at 10:00 am on Friday Nov. 27th and runs through Sunday, Nov. 29th. You'll find a huge selection of adult animals in all shapes and sizes.

But wait, there's more! Every OHS adoption comes with a great list of "extras." Every animal is spayed or neutered; comes with an identification microchip, collar and tag; has received it's initial round of vaccinations; and includes a free month of health insurance and a free first visit to a veterinarian. And did we mention that the staff of OHS is always available to answer your pet-related questions and help you find the perfect match?

OHS is a great place to escape the madness of holiday shopping and spend some one-on-one time with your next furry friend. We even have two retail stores that stock everything that a practical (and fun-loving) pet owner could need.

Brighten up your Black Friday and take a pet home for the holidays!
