April is national "Prevent Animal Cruelty" Month - How you can help

National attention is drawn towards preventing animal cruelty this month. The Oregon Humane Society is in a unique position to help affect positive change for the animals in this community with your help. During April, OHS is asking that you take time to learn about the link between animal cruelty and human violence, report any suspected animal cruelty to the proper authorities, and teach compassion to your children.

You can help stop animal cruelty:

• Report suspected animal cruelty to the authorities; Please do not take the law in your own hands. Avoid confrontations and please do not trespass or remove the animal.
• Gather information officers will need
• Look for these potential signs of animal cruelty
• Bring lessons of compassion for animals to your children's classroom
• Learn about the link between animal abuse and violence towards humans
• Support legislation to toughen Oregon's animal welfare laws
• What parents should know about animal cruelty
• Make a donation to fund the efforts of the OHS Humane Investigation Officers who are in the field on a daily basis educating the public and enforcing Oregon's tough animal cruelty laws
