New COO for Oregon’s Largest Animal Welfare Organization

Brian August, COO of OHS, and his dog, Jack.

OHS has hired a chief operating officer from the private sector. “Brian August, with 19 years of experience in operations, strategy and supply chain operations, will help a highly-qualified group of OHS executives reach their highest potential,” said Sharon Harmon, Executive Director and CEO of OHS.

August comes to OHS from Slalom Consulting, where he led the company’s Portland Strategy and Operations practice. August collaborated with business leaders on such areas as strategic planning, supply chain operations and vendor engagement.

Prior to Slalom Consulting, he was the senior director of operations for Gyrobike, a California company that produced self-balancing bicycle wheels. Over the course of his career, August has worked in a wide range of industries including aerospace, wine, pulp and paper, retail, and consumer products.

“Brian’s considerable skills in the business world will help us maximize efficiency so that donor dollars have the most impact,” said Harmon. “OHS faces a host of new challenges in the years ahead and Brian’s skills will help us continue to grow and thrive.”

August holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University and law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He lives in Portland with his partner, Dana, of 15 years and a very stubborn hound named Jack.
