shelter tours and field trips
Visitors of all ages are invited to an educational presentation and tour of OHS's facility and historical grounds. Tours will accommodate each group's needs from scouts, to schools, to seniors. Tours of the OHS shelter include visiting the cattery, dog kennel pods, and small animal room to see the rabbits, rodents and sometimes birds. Outside, weather permitting, visitors will learn some of OHS's 135 plus years history, stop by the beautiful Memorial Rose Garden and memorial area, and see the oldest animal cemetery west of the Mississippi River. Tours include Bobbie of Silverton's story, his gravesite and special dog house along with the Amie Woods' memorial. Get an up close look at a very special cow waiting along the path and marvel at the history while looking at the old red barn and marble fountain. Please plan for 60 to 90 minutes for the tour.
Schedule a tour or field trip by call (503) 416-2986 or 416-5034 or e-mail eduast@oregonhumane.org.
Visitors are encouraged to bring treats such as dog biscuits, leafy lettuce, and carrots. Other items from the OHS wish list are appreciated as well.
