Battles in the state capitol are often won because of the grass-roots involvement of everyday citizens. Your letters and phone calls make a difference.
The best way to keep informed about legislation and regulations involving animals is to subscribe to Pet Dish, the OHS e-newsletter. We’ll keep you posted about the latest developments and send Action Alerts as needed.
To learn who represents you and how to contact them, visit Find Your Legislator. After you enter your address, the names, phone numbers and email of addresses of your legislators will be displayed.
You can make a toll-free telephone call to your legislator at (800) 332-2313. If the legislature is not in session, you may need to call their direct number (available through Find Your Legislator).
When contacting your legislator, these tips will help get your message across more effectively:
- Identify yourself as a constituent of the lawmaker.
- Make your comments as specific as possible. If you know the name or number of a bill, mention your support or opposition to it.
- Be brief. Lawmakers can receive hundreds of calls and emails a day. Focus on what actions you want your elected officials to take.
