Flight of Love - Animals from Louisiana Arrive in Portland

October 5, 2005

Today at 12:30 pm, 93 pets (78 dogs and 15 cats) arrived in Portland from the hurricane devastated area of Louisiana. Four weeks ago, these animals were fighting for their lives staying out of flood waters or avoiding the dangers of the devastation; today they are all being treated like royalty. “Watching these animals come off the plane has brought this experience full circle. From rescuing dogs and cats from the devastation of New Orleans, to providing care and TLC while at the temporary shelters in Louisiana, we are now able to help them find their way back home,"  remarks Lt. Randy Covey, OHS Lead Humane Investigator and the team leader for both the teams OHS sent to Louisiana in September. “What an exciting, joyful day. This is why we are here: to bring animals from the trauma of disaster to the comfort of home.”

Photos of each animal will be posted on the OHS web site and Petfinder.com. Read more about the arrival: Oregon Public Broadcast.
