Because OHS relies 100% on private donations, events like Dogie Dash are essential to raising the funds animals need. Everything we do -- from rescuing neglected dogs to sheltering thousands of cats in need of homes -- depends on your donations. Read on to see your donations at work helping animals.

100% of Doggie Dash proceeds go to the programs of Oregon Humane Society.

Adoption Programs

Did you know?

  • OHS never puts a time limit on how long an animal stays at the shelter
  • OHS never euthanizes an animal for space reasons
  • OHS found homes for 97% of dogs and 95% of cats last year -- among the highest rates in the nation
  • A record 10,113 pets were adopted from OHS last year

Fighting Animal Cruelty

Rescuing animals from neglect, abuse and abandonment is a major reason OHS exists. Last year, we rescued more than 450 animals from puppy mills and hoarders. High-profile rescues took place in Burns, Harney County, Tillamook and Kennewick, Wash. In addition to these rescues, another 490 pets were seized or surrendered to our staff of full-time Humane Investigators.

OHS investigators are commissioned directly by the Governor of Oregon to enforce animal cruelty laws throughout the state, but their expenses are paid for entirely through private donations to OHS.

A Charity You Can Trust

… (the) Oregon Humane Society consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America.”
--Ken Berger, President, Charity Navigator

OHS works hard to put every dollar donated to work helping animals in need. We’re proud to report that for the second year in a row, we’ve received the highest possible rating for financial management from Charity Navigator, the nation’s leading charity watchdog group.

We keep administrative and fundraising costs to a minimum, devoting 87 cents of every dollar to programs helping animals. Our ability to efficiently manage and grow our finances resulted in a coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator in 2009 -- the second year in a row we’ve received the highest rating.
