"Be Kind to Animals" Photo/Story Contest
Grades 5 - 6 Winner
Minnie, a four year old (in human years) Pomeranian, was born March 21, 2000. Her hobbies include eating, barking and sleeping. I, Grace, ten years old, was born December 25, 1994. I love hanging out with dogs, especially Minnie and her older sister Lulu-a Golden Retriever. Minnie and I have a lot of things in common. We both have the same favorite animal…the dog. We both like the same things, which are candy, cookies, sweets, television, cats, kittens, all animals and many other things. We both dislike bananas, tomatoes, piano and a few other things.
Minnie and I are also both adopted. I was adopted from China. My older brother Jeff gave me Minnie from the Humane Society. Minnie is different from most dogs. She has seizures. She needs medicine every night and morning. I feed Minnie her pill-she takes it pretty good.
I can talk to Minnie about me being adopted. I talk about the good things and the bad things. I feel that she understands me. I try to listen to her problems, but that is hard because she is sleeping, eating or playing outside with Lulu. I personally don’t mind being adopted. Some people think that if you are adopted then you don’t have a real family. But it is not at all like that you don’t have a family! Sometimes I think that Minnie thinks of her biological parents. Once in a while I do, too. I think about what they were like and how they were. But we are safe and satisfied with what we have and that is all we need-my dogs, my sisters, and my parents. The world.
