Pets can teach you a lot of things. One of the many things I’ve learned is to be responsible. If you forget to feed your pet it would go hungry and it could get sick and die. Also, if you forget to clean your pet’s cage, it would be living in its own scum. This can make your pet sick. Another thing that will make your pet sick is if you don’t give it enough exercise. So to have a healthy pet you have to be responsible. And everybody wants a healthy pet.
You can even learn things from your pet before you get it. Well, at least, I did. Before we got my hedgehog, Pedro, I did LOTS of research. I read books and found information on the Internet. I learned lots of things, like what hedgehogs eat, how they like to live, and their history. I learned how to do research and shop wisely. So by the time we got Pedro, he had already taught me a lot.
I have even learned from my pet just by watching him. I’ve learned how to be a careful observer. For example, I watch when he eats and I’ve noticed he likes raisins better than his other food. I know which of my dad’s shoes he likes to hide in best. I know what he does when he feels afraid and I know when Pedro’s content. It’s important to be a good observer because your pet can’t talk to you with words. I love watching Pedro and I can’t wait until summer so I can observe him outside.
So far I’ve learned three main things from Pedro, but I know I’m going to learn lots more. I can’t wait!
